Description
Evidence Tier · Randomized Controlled Trials
A maintenance dose of vitamin D3 in an oil-based softgel.
What It Does
Supports normal immune function, calcium absorption, and muscle function.*
How It Works
Vitamin D3 is converted in the liver to 25(OH)D, the circulating form, and in tissues to its active hormone, which regulates calcium absorption and immune cell function.
Why This Form
Cholecalciferol in oil for absorption. 2,000 IU is a daily maintenance dose for most adults without a need for testing first.
Clinical Evidence
A dose-response study quantified the rise in serum 25(OH)D from daily cholecalciferol.¹ A meta-analysis of 25 randomized trials examined daily or weekly vitamin D and acute respiratory infections.²
What The Evidence Does Not Show
The benefit in the meta-analysis was concentrated in people with low baseline vitamin D. People with adequate levels may see little change.
