Description
Evidence Tier · Randomized Controlled Trials
Concentrated fish oil providing EPA and DHA, the two long-chain omega-3 fatty acids studied in human trials.
What It Does
Supports heart health and normal triglyceride levels.*
How It Works
EPA and DHA are incorporated into cell membranes, including those of heart and brain tissue, and are precursors to signaling molecules involved in the resolution of inflammation. At higher intakes they lower circulating triglycerides.
Why This Form
Each softgel provides 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. Taking three provides 900 mg combined, within the range used in many heart health studies.
Clinical Evidence
The American Heart Association scientific statement reviewed the human trial evidence on fish oil intake and heart health.¹ A later advisory reviewed omega-3 doses for triglyceride lowering.²
What The Evidence Does Not Show
Triglyceride lowering in trials typically required 2 to 4 g daily of EPA and DHA. One softgel is a modest daily intake. Consult your physician if you take anticoagulants.
