Description
Evidence Tier · Randomized Controlled Trials
Low-dose melatonin with valerian, chamomile, lemon balm, passion flower, GABA and L-tryptophan.
What It Does
Supports falling asleep and restful sleep.*
How It Works
Melatonin signals darkness to the circadian system and shortens the time it takes to fall asleep. Valerian and the other botanicals act on GABA signaling.
Why This Form
2 mg melatonin rather than the 5 to 10 mg doses common in stores. Lower doses were effective in trials.
Clinical Evidence
A meta-analysis of 19 randomized trials found melatonin reduced sleep onset latency and increased total sleep time.¹ A meta-analysis of valerian trials reported possible improvement in sleep quality, with methodological limitations.²
What The Evidence Does Not Show
Melatonin effects in the meta-analysis were modest, about 7 minutes faster sleep onset on average. Valerian evidence is mixed. May cause drowsiness the next morning.
