Description
Contributes to normal thyroid function, normal production of thyroid hormones, normal cognitive function, normal nervous system function, and the maintenance of normal skin.
How It Works
Iodine is the substrate for thyroperoxidase-mediated iodination of thyroglobulin, the reaction that produces thyroxine and triiodothyronine.
Why This Form
A defined chemical source, assayed for iodine content on every lot. The therapeutic window for iodine is genuinely narrow and both deficiency and excess produce thyroid dysfunction, so accuracy is the entire proposition. Kelp-derived products vary substantially between harvests and cannot be dosed precisely.
What we rejected: Kelp and other seaweed-derived iodine.
The Research Behind It
Human urinary iodine concentration studies, the established population status marker, alongside thyroid function endpoint trials including the excess-intake data that set our ceiling.
What The Evidence Does Not Show
Dosed at the adult RDA rather than the high-dose levels some products use. If you have a thyroid condition, iodine supplementation is not a decision to make without your physician.
