Description
Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, normal nervous system function, normal cardiac function, and normal psychological function.
How It Works
Thiamine pyrophosphate is the cofactor for pyruvate dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase and transketolase — three control points in the oxidation of glucose.
Why This Form
Water-soluble thiamine relies on an active intestinal transporter that saturates, which caps how much additional intake can reach tissue. Benfotiamine is lipid-soluble and bypasses that ceiling, reaching higher tissue thiamine levels in comparative human studies. We include both.
What we rejected: High-dose thiamine HCl alone. Past the transporter ceiling, additional intake produces little additional tissue thiamine.
The Research Behind It
Comparative human bioavailability studies between thiamine salts and benfotiamine, with erythrocyte transketolase activity as the measured endpoint.
What The Evidence Does Not Show
The endpoint here is an enzyme activity marker. Cognitive and energy outcomes in already-replete adults are not established, and we do not claim them.
