Description
Contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and supports normal skin condition.
How It Works
Astaxanthin is a xanthophyll carotenoid that spans the lipid bilayer, quenching singlet oxygen at both membrane surfaces and within the interior — a structural feature that distinguishes it from beta-carotene.
Why This Form
Natural algal source, esterified as it occurs in Haematococcus pluvialis. Synthetic petrochemical-derived astaxanthin has a different stereoisomer profile and was not the material used in the human trials. It is common in the market and rarely labelled as synthetic. Formulated in a lipid matrix because absorption is fat-dependent.
What we rejected: Synthetic astaxanthin.
The Research Behind It
Human randomized controlled trials on skin elasticity, moisture and oxidative stress markers, conducted on natural algal-derived material.
What The Evidence Does Not Show
Absorption is fat-dependent — taken without dietary fat, much of the dose is wasted. Skin trial durations in this literature are typically eight to twelve weeks.
